DropBox on Arch Linux: "Connecting..." forever

I'm about a week into using Arch Linux and loving it, but every now and then I run into a random problem.  Last nights was getting Dropbox to connect.

According to the ArchWiki, on the first run of dropbox after installing it from the AUR it should provide a pop up to get your configuration choices, and sign into your account.  For me however, it simply loaded the icon and hang at "Connecting..."

The ArchWiki even has a section about this problem, which is completely wrong and wont fix the issue.  Deep in the comments section in the AUR was a working solution.

How-To: Create a Swap file on Ubuntu 12.04

I've been using DigitalOcean for a few weeks now and have been very happy so far.  In fact I've only run into one issue, with MySQL crashing.  At first it looked like an issue with the specific  blogging platform I'm using, but the mysql log file quickly cleared that up.

Convert Putty .ppk file to OpenSSH Keys

This is one I constantly forget and have to look up over and over, probably due to not having to do it very often. To convert and install keys from your Putty PPK to linux ( Ubuntu ).

  • Install putty with: sudo apt-get install putty
  • Create the public key file:
  • puttygen /path/to/puttykey.ppk -L > ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub
  • Create the private key file:
  • puttygen /path/to/puttykey.ppk -O private-openssh -o ~/.ssh/id_rsa
